[2025 Update] The List of Pet Holidays & How to Strategically Use Them In Your Pet Business

Updated: 1 day ago

2025 is around the corner, and while some things never change (like the love for our furry friends), the way we market our pet businesses absolutely should. If you're tired of posting the same old cute pet pictures with holidays as filler, it's time to level up your strategy. We’ve updated our comprehensive list of 2025 pet holidays (and U.S. holidays) so you can plan ahead and implement them in ways that actually drive results for your business

It’s all the same deets, just updated dates, so you can make sure that you're not only getting the right dates for your pet business marketing, but you're also learning how to strategically implement them into your content.

Because, again,... so many pet businesses default to sharing primarily cute pictures of pets and adding in the day's random holiday and we highly recommend NOT doing that!

It doesn't do anything for your audience, it doesn't set you apart, and it's just plain lazy as a content filler (let's be honest!). Social media and marketing can be a beautiful thing for your business with the right strategy, so after going through the holidays, consider reading our tips below on the best ways to integrate them into your marketing depending on your strategy, offerings, and brand!

Okay, so now that you went through the list of 2025 pet holidays and US holidays, what do you do with them? How do you find which ones are right for your pet business and how to integrate them strategically into your marketing?

Here are 4 tips to get you started:

  1. Don't use them all! Don’t even use most of them. Holidays can easily become overdone, and over-saturating your feed with too many holidays can just feel spammy (not authentic). Holidays shouldn’t just be a default excuse to post.

  2. When picking which holidays to use, try to think about what ACTUALLY applies to your business. For example, if you're a dog walker/pet sitter and don't offer bathing services, you probably don't need to feature Bathing Day. Stick to the ones that REALLY bring up the conversation of what you do, who you serve, and what your message promotes. The right holiday, paired with your brand's focus, can build authority and deepen loyalty.

Here are some examples to get you started:

    1. For pet nutritionists: Use 'National Pet Obesity Awareness Day' to offer tips or run a challenge.

    2. For dog walkers and pet sitters: Use "National Walk Your Dog Day" to share customer testimonials or video snippets from fun walks, or offer a limited-time promotion for new clients.

    3. For pet photographers: "National Dog Photography Day" could be a great opportunity to host a mini-photoshoot or share your best tips for capturing pets in action.

  3. Don't just announce the holiday and say “Happy Take a Hike Day!” Consider a true purpose or point to your post. Some options on how to promote engagement are to offer some trail suggestions in your area, ask people where their favorite place to walk is in your community, write about the benefits to your health when you walk, etc. Get involved with the holiday and make it have a point. Relate it back to one or more of the following - your expertise on a topic, your services or products, pure entertainment that matches your branding strategy, or sharing more about you and/or your team.

  4. Be sure to always include a call-to-action (CTA). Make sure you're asking your audience to take some sort of action, whether it's to save your photo on social media, respond via a comment, share the post, book with you, head to your website, read your blog, share a photo, etc. No matter the size of the request, any CTA is great (and is more likely to lead to future bigger commitments, like booking or purchasing from you). However, make sure your CTA has a purpose, too! Don’t just pick an action for the heck of it. Be sure to vary it up and make your CTA be the clear next action depending on the content of the post.

Speaking of websites... If you're encouraging social media posts BACK to your website, you need to make sure your website is in tip-top shape (aka it's ready to start converting clients). How do you do that? We've got a resource for you:
